Preventive Care

Hygiene

Teeth cleaning is part of oral hygiene and involves the removal of dental plaque from teeth with the intention of preventing cavities, gingivitis, and periodontal disease. To maintain optimal oral health, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends regular dental visits, at intervals determined by a dentist. The ADA wants to remind consumers that the frequency of their regular dental visits should be tailored by their dentists to accommodate for their current oral health status and health history.

X-rays

The ADA encourages dentists and patients to discuss dental treatment recommendations, including the need for X-rays, to make informed decisions together. Atkins Dentistry offers a variety of x-ray options using state of the art technology.

Fluoride and Sealants

Fluoride varnish is a dental treatment that can help prevent, slow or stop tooth decay. Fluoride varnish is made with fluoride, a mineral that can strengthen tooth enamel.

Sealants are a clear covering placed over teeth that are prone to cavities. Dental sealants are recognized as an effective approach to preventing pit and fissure caries in children and teens.

Periodontal Maintenance Scaling and Root Planing

Also referred to as a “deep cleaning” this type of non-surgical periodontal therapy is done when there is evidence of gum inflammation or disease that cannot be adequately controlled by a regular hygiene visit. Your hygienist will determine when this is the best fit for your health.

Restorative Services

Fillings

Done when the tooth has present decay but the structure of the tooth is still intact. Any decay will be removed and a composite will be added to the tooth. The filling composites utilize color matching technology to ensure a flawless look.

Crowns

A crown is placed over a tooth when a tooth has significant damage or fracture. Crowns can also be used to attach bridges, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that’s already broken. A crown can be a good way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped.

Bridge

Spaces from missing teeth can result in the shifting of the current teeth. When multiple teeth are missing or extracted, a bridge is one of many options.

Partials, Dentures

Depending on your needs, we will design a removable partial denture for you.

Dental Implants

Implants are a long term modern and effective way to replace missing teeth. The development and use of implants is one of the biggest advances in modern dentistry.

Endodontics

Root Canals

A root canal is performed when there is damage to the nerve and tissue of the tooth. This procedure affects the overall structure of the tooth and a crown is usually required.

Oral Surgery

Extractions

Complete extraction of a tooth is done when there is significant disease, trauma, or crowding. Simple and some complex extractions are performed by our doctors, but in some cases they are referred to a oral surgeon.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Clear Orthodontic Aligners

Invisalign® and SureSmile® are custom-made aligner (tray) that is interchanged approximately every two weeks for a period of six to eighteen months, or longer depending on the severity of misalignment. This clear aligner is usually computer-generated from a mold ( impression) of the patient’s teeth and the fitting is unique to each patient. We will determine if this is the best fit for your dental needs.

Bleaching

We offer various, safe ways to whiten teeth. ZOOM treatment and bleaching trays that are made in-office are the most popular forms of dental professional whitening. We provide take-home bleach so that patients can continue to keep their teeth their whitest.
